New year is around the corner, and now I am thinking about having new oak floorboards for my house and vinyl flooring for my bathroom. So, I start browsing for solid oak flooring and vinyl floor tiles on the Internet.

And voila!! I find this amazing website selling a wide range of floorboards, not only it offers cheap laminate flooring and engineered oak flooring, the site alsos share information on how to lay laminate flooring.

I am happy I found the website, so I don’t have to waste more time searching for floorboards I want to buy, all I have to do is just browse the site and choose my favorite flooring.

The good thing about advanced technology is that it makes our life far more easier. Taking the Internet connection, for example; nowadays we can easily get connected to it without cables. We can just use wifi technology; that way, we can have wireless hot spot anywhere!

It's easy to get that wireless connection in our home. All we have to do is just to get wireless router, a combination of a router and a wireless access point that will enable you to remotely connect to the Internet without the need for cable.

bertemu kembali dengan teman2 sd setelah terpisah selama 21 tahun ternyata sangat menyenangkan. suasananya sangat cair, seperti kita sudah sering bertemu. lucu juga. setelah terpisah selama itu, ternyata sebagian besar dari kita masih saling mengenali wajah dan nama.

mungkin karena pengaruh pertemanan masa sd yang berlangsung selama 6 tahun, ditambah dengan kapasitas memori yang pada saat itu masih cukup lega, jadi bisa menampung cukup banyak data wajah dan nama teman2 sekolah kita.

yaaah, pokoknya gak menyesallah tadi ngebela2in muter melewati macet di bilangan karet untuk berbuka puasa bareng teman2 sd di sky dining, plangi :D

whoa! satu lagi alasan brilian dari para anggota dewan yang terhormat untuk menolak kantornya dioprek2 kpk.

hahaha... pak, pak, mbok ya situ sekali2 sadar, eling, sober, or whatever the term is... secara lembaga sih mestinya dpr memang menjadi lembaga terhormat yang menampung dan menyalurkan aspirasi rakyat. eh tapi coba diingat2 lagi pak, itu artinya tidak sama lho dengan menampung dan menyalurkan uang rakyat untuk modal belanja istri2 bapak2 anggota lembaga yang terhormat.

anyways (duh, saya selalu kesusahan mencari padanan kata anyways dalam bahasa indonesia)... itu kan kalau bicara tentang seharusnya secara lembaga, tapi kan belum tentu juga dooong orang2 di dalamnya dijamin berkelakuan secara terhormat, meskipun seharusnya sih begitu ya...

yaaah gak usah lah kita bicara soal perilaku menyimpang yang sepertinya cukup banyak diderita anggota lembaga yang terhormat itu, seperti kecintaan yang berlebihan terhadap uang atau terhadap pelacur (tadinya sih saya mau menyebut perempuan, tapi mengingat kelakuan mereka yang konon katanya hobi mencari wanita penghibur, a.k.a pelacur, terutama saat 'studi banding' di luar negeri, jadi rasa2nya pilihan kata itu yang paling tepat mewakili)... kita coba bicara soal pekerjaan mereka saja, siapa tahu ada yang memang benar2 terhormat adanya...

hmmmm... setelah berpikir beberapa menit dengan tingkat konsentrasi yang cukup tinggi, ternyata saya belum berhasil mendapatkan hal2 positif dari mereka. yang bermunculan di kepala malah berbagai cerita yang pernah saya dengar saat anggota2 itu mengadakan kunjungan yang terhormat di berbagai penjuru dunia. dan dari berbagai cerita itu, bisa ditarik kesimpulan yang sama dari tiap kunjungan mereka, yaitu malu2in!! waduh, waduh, kalau sudah begini bagaimana mau dibilang terhormat, pak?

kadang sempat juga terlintas ide di kepala, lucu juga kali ya kalau cerita2 dari berbagai penjuru dunia itu dikumpulkan dan dituangkan dalam sebuah buku berjudul 'mati ketawa ala senayan'... eh jangan deh, sepertinya lebih cocok kalau diberi judul 'mati geli ala senayan'... hahaha.

duh, maaf ya pak, bukan maksud saya melecehkan lembaga yang terhormat tempat bapak2 bekerja. saya akui lembaganya terhormat kok pak, sumpah pak!!! yang tidak terhormat cuma bapak2 kok...

yup, sepertinya masih harus diakui bahwa kehidupan di luar sana masih didominasi oleh kaum adam. bahkan untuk dunia per-blog-an sekalipun.

kenapa saya bisa bilang begitu? mungkin saya saja yang membuat kesimpulan terlalu awal dan hanya berdasarkan pengalaman pribadi. dari beberapa komentar yang masuk ke blog ini dan blog lama, baik di kolom comment maupun shoutbox, beberapa kali saya mendapati pengunjung yang menyapa saya dengan sebutan 'mas' atau 'oom'.

hehe, sebetulnya saya tidak terlalu mempermasalahkan sapaan2 itu. buat saya sah2 saja mereka menyapa dengan sebutan2 itu, karena memang dalam blog2 itu tidak pernah secara spesifik tercermin jenis kelamin si penulis. bahkan saya berterima kasih pada mereka yang sudi meluangkan waktunya untuk membaca beberapa entry di blog saya dan meninggalkan komentar yang bersahabat (baca: komentar bersahabat tidak melulu harus bersifat memuji, tapi paling tidak komentar tersebut tidak berisi cercaan dan sindiran yang tidak mengenakkan hati).

yang kemudian menjadi pertanyaan saya adalah apa yang membuat para pengunjung itu berasumsi bahwa pemilik sekaligus penulis blog2 itu adalah seorang laki2? atau, mengapa asumsi pertama yang muncul dalam benak pengunjung adalah bahwa si penulis blog adalah kaum adam?

hehehe... sebuah pertanyaan tidak penting yang ternyata cukup mengusik pikiran saya ;D

akhir juni terasa masih sangat jauh dari penglihatan. gak sabar banget rasanya menunggu hari terakhir di bulan keenam itu. hari kebebasan.

hmmm, sebetulnya saya sama sekali tidak bermaksud mengeluhkan apa yang sedang saya kerjakan 1,5 bulan belakangan hingga akhir juni ini. bukan pekerjaan yang terlalu sulit, hanya saja saya agak salah strategi ketika memulainya. akibatnya, saat ini saya merasa tidak nyaman menjalani rutinitas harian hingga ikatan kontrak berakhir.

tapi sekarang saya mulai belajar legowo untuk tetap berangkat ke tempat kerja setiap hari, meskipun sebetulnya saya tidak punya kewajiban melakukan itu. tidak ada salahnya juga dijalankan.

kadang saya berpikir, apa sebetulnya yang membuat saya enggan datang dan bekerja di kantor itu. toh pekerjaan yang harus dilakukan bukan pekerjaan yang sulit. relatif mudah dan tidak terlalu menguras energi, apalagi emosi. padahal, di kantor lama dulu saya jarang merasa seenggan itu, meskipun saya benci sekali dengan pekerjaannya.

pikir punya pikir, akhirnya saya tiba pada sebuah kesimpulan: mungkin saya tidak merasa kantor itu sebagai kantor saya. saya tidak merasa kantor itu sebagai rumah kedua saya, tempat dimana saya harus menghabiskan 1/3 hidup saya setiap 24 jam. saya tidak merasa nyaman di sana. kembali lagi, mungkin ketidaknyamanan itu muncul karena saya tidak merasa kantor itu sebagai kantor saya.

selain itu, mungkin saya tidak lagi mempunyai kegiatan penyeimbang rutinitas pekerjaan saya sehari2 (baca: kumpul bareng teman2 kantor untuk berhaha-hihi saat makan pagi dan makan siang, bahkan saat nongkrong sepulang kantor).

dan saya kehilangan dua hal penting itu di tempat kerja saat ini.

murphy's law

things that can go wrong will go wrong. uhm... well, I don't remember it exactly, but I think that's more or less what murphy's law is all about. in the beginning I don't really understand what it means, not until after the last few days since I've joined that organisation last month.

the first time they gave me a contract to sign, I had this awkward, doubtful feeling on whether or not to take the job and sign the contract. I felt that there was something funny (or should i say discrepant?) between some points stated in the contract and the real works that I have to do. there was a missing link there.

however, as stupid and unassertive as I am, I continued signing in the contract and join the bloody club. by doing so, I am subscribing my daily life for the next 3-4 months into another uncomfortable (to avoid using the word 'disastrous') zone.

And it reached its height yesterday, when I fucked up one of my works. fucked up big time. one thing I've never done during my last 10 years of work experience. I tried so hard not to blame it on other things.

all I can do is just referring back to this murphy's law. things that can go wrong will go wrong. I should've trusted my hunch when my subconscious mind started giving that doubtful feeling. I should've remembered what paulo coelho has implied in almost all of his books on reading the omens.

now I just can't help but wonder whether I should continue or just give it up. I know it sounds like a coward or a quitter. but hey, why bother continue dipping yourself in a deep shit when you can shift your life to a slightly better condition? I do realise that I need the money, but somehow it's just not worth this restless situation.

yes... ternyata turun kelas dari pr 2 menjadi 0 belum terlalu mempengaruhi peluang mendapat pekerjaan mudah di internet. barusan saya mencoba login di blogsvertise dan keranjang sampah saya terlihat aktif dengan beberapa tawaran. dan saya ambillah satu yang bernilai 10. lumayan.

berarti kemarin2 ini masalahnya mungkin karena saya tidak pernah login di waktu yang tepat untuk memungut pekerjaan di keranjang itu. semoga begitu, bukan karena bvs belum memasukkan blog saya ke daftar hitam blog tak ber-PR :D

emang dasar belum rejekinya dapet duit dengan cara gampang kali ya. lagi sering2nya dapet kerjaan senilai 10 usd, eeeh pr-nya dihajar sama si mas google. jadi lah blog ini turun kelas dari ber-pr 2 menjadi 0.

awal2 baru turun jadi 0 sih masih sempat juga ambil kerjaan dan masih dapat yang seharga 10 usd. tapi belakangan mulai jarang nih. entah karena saya mulai tidak sempat nongkrongin keranjang sampah di jam yang tepat, atau memang karena pr saya berkurang lalu keranjang sampah tak lagi ada isinya? entahlah.

yang saya tahu, mungkin memang belum rejeki dapet duit secara gampang. padahal meskipun gampang, nilainya belum terlalu berlimpah ruah. yaah, terpaksalah merambah kembali dunia kerja yang sebenarnya.

I just notice that the title above makes me looks like a gambler who is trying to stop gambling. To tell you the truth, I am not a gambler. I couldn’t even gamble to save my life. Trust me on that. But frankly, I like to see people gambling, should it be on poker, black jack, roulette or just playing slots. It looks fun, and more interestingly, it’s not my money that lost in the game. Haha.

I like to watch people playing the games and betting their money not only in a real casino building, but also in an online casino game. Well, of course the atmosphere is quite different between the real and online casino game, but somehow the fun is still there. To see the expression of a person winning the game is as interesting as to see him lose it, either in the real or online game. And if I’m lucky enough, my friend would treat me a yummy dinner when he wins some pennies :D

whoa, akhirnya saya bisa mengucapkan selamat tinggal speedy. setelah beberapa bulan terakhir harus sering merasa was2 atas penggunaan akses internet speedy yang melewati batas 1 gb per bulan, mulai hari ini saya bisa bernafas lega.

mulai senin besok saya bisa mulai berhenti langganan speedy. sekarang saya mencoba layanan quasar yang bekerja sama dengan xl dengan koneksi mobilequ. cukup dengan 330 ribu per bulan, flat rate, saya bisa mengakses internet 24 jam sehari di mana saja. yup, dengan menggunakan hp 3g sebagai modem, saya bisa mengakses internet dari laptop saya di manapun, selama lokasi itu bisa menerima sinyal xl secara baik.

memang sih, untuk ukuran kecepatan, quasar masih jauh lebih lambat dibanding speedy. saat ini saja saya tersambung hanya dengan kecepatan 460 kbps. tak apalah, yang penting tidak perlu lagi ada perasaan was2 kalau di akhir bulan tagihan speedy melonjak karena over limit.

yah kita lihat saja layanannya dalam beberapa bulan ke depan ini. moga2 sih tidak ada masalah yang terlalu mengganggu.

I really wish I could go back to UK, at least for a vacation and visiting my friends there. I still can remember many places I had visited when I lived there for a year in 2002. Manchester was one of our favourite cities. Because the city is relatively close to our village, Manchester became a weekend gateway for us when we need to see the crowds of big city, including the gigs. And since we’re quite familiar with the city, we don’t find any difficulties to book a Manchester accommodation; just browse it from the Internet.

But if we had extra money and wanted to see more crowds and attractions, we would go to London. It always felt very amusing every time I toured around the city. And since there are so many interesting places to see in Central London, such as London bridge, Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square and Camden, I always preferred to stay in Central London hotels, so I would be close to those interesting places.

And in the last month of my stay in the UK, my friend and I managed to drive to Scotland. We went to Glasgow, just to see around the city for a while. In the beginning we had a hesitance on whether or not to spend a night there. We just realised afterward that actually it wasn’t so difficult to find a Glasgow accommodation if we wanted to stay there. Anyways, we continued our journey and stayed in this beautiful city of Edinburgh with its amazing old town sight. We stayed there for a night because we already booked our place in one of Edinburgh accommodations.

Unfortunately, during my one year of stay in the UK, I didn’t have a chance to visit Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland. The place seems so exciting, yet challenging, because of its historical relations with the UK. However, if I got a chance to go there, I believe it won’t be too difficult to find a place to stay in Belfast accommodation.

And now, I really wish I have that opportunity and I miss travelling around UK so much.

I just found an interesting site, namely recognize everyone. I call it interesting because apparently the site is more like a social experiment to see how small the world is. The question is, how does it work?

Here's how it works: the maker of recognize everyone is placing a random picture containing several random people in a random place. Then, the maker would ask the feedback from global-round web community if they know any of the people there. With more random people recognizing more random faces in the picture, recognize everyone would prove that the world is indeed small. Pure genius, isn’t it?

For no clear reason, Ireland has been my favourite country since I was in junior high. I don’t even know why, maybe it just sounds exotic and challenging. And lately, every time I hear about Ireland I always relate it with my favourite Irish band, the Cranberries. The band originates from Limerick, that’s why I always want to go there.

Dublin is the capital city of the Republic of Ireland, so it is of course one of the must visited cities. Who knows, maybe I could get a chance to bump into the personnel of another great Irish band, U2.

As for Cork, I heard that it has lively cultural scene and had been appointed as the European Capital of Culture for 2005. The city also holds several festivals for music, theatre and film. And Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland, I see it as a challenging place to visit, because it is still relatively undiscovered compared to Dublin. Some people say that a trip to Belfast will make you learn more about the British and Irish psyche.

batas satu jam yang tadi disebut oleh customer service bank niaga sudah lewat. saya pun kembali berusaha mengakses e-banking niaga. kali ini saya benar2 berhati2, terutama saat mengetikkan password yang diminta.

Hnah!!! sepertinya saya mulai bisa mengidentifikasi apa masalah sebenarnya. tadi siang, sebelum membuat password baru di keyboard kasir bank, saya bertanya pada sang kasir mengenai ketentuan membuat password. tentu maksud saya di sini adalah berapa jumlah karakter minimal/maksimal dan mungkin aturan2 lainnya. si kasir bilang bebas saja. dan saya pun mengetikkan password pilihan saya di keyboard itu tanpa bisa mengecek monitor komputer (secara itu sebetulnya keyboard dan monitor kasir yang terletak di bawah meja. dan keyboard dipaksakan diangkat sedikit ke atas agar nasabah bisa mengetikkan password... profesional bangetlah pokoknya)

setelah dilihat2, sepertinya masalahnya ada di jumlah karakter password. kebetulan password yang saya ketikkan berjumlah 9 karakter. dan ketika tadi saya perhatikan dengan hati2 saat mengetikkan password di halaman situs e-banking, ternyata setiap saya ketikkan password, hanya bisa memunculkan 8 karakter! wtf?!! alamat besok harus kembali ke bank niaga. shit.

saat menulis ini kebetulan saya juga mengaktifkan ym dengan status: bank niaga dodol! dan tidak lama kemudian, pada saat yang bersamaan, muncullah 2 orang teman yang menyapa:

beberapa hari yang lalu saya membuka rekening baru di bank niaga. sebuah bank yang sebelumnya tak pernah terlintas di otak saya untuk membuka rekening di situ. tapi berhubung saat ini diketahui bahwa rekening paypal indonesia sudah bisa diverifikasi hanya melalui visa elektron bank niaga tanpa harus memiliki kartu kredit, maka saya memutuskan untuk membuka rekening di sana.

konon, berdasarkan pengalaman orang2 yang sudah berhasil memverifikasi rekening paypal-nya dengan menggunakan kartu niaga, kita bisa memperoleh 4 digit angka verifikasi paypal setelah mendaftarkan rekening niaga kita di paypal. dan melalui akses e-banking, 4 digit itu bisa segera kita peroleh dalam hitungan menit saat kita mengakses rekening kita melalui website.

entah sedang apes atau memang ketololan pribadi, saya mengalami kesulitan mengakses e-banking niaga. rabu minggu lalu saya membuka rekening bank sekaligus diberi amplop berisi password untuk mengakses e-banking. senin kemarin saya kembali ke bank niaga untuk mengambil kartu atm, dan berharap sesampainya di rumah nanti saya bisa langsung memverifikasi rekening paypal.

tapi apa yang terjadi? ternyata saya belum bisa mengakses e-banking niaga karena pihak bank belum mengirim user id saya melalui imel. dan siang tadi saya menanyakan hal tersebut melalui telepon. ternyata oh ternyata, mereka mempunyai sistem baru, sistem sangat baru!

dengan sistem baru itu, password yang sudah diberikan kemarin dinyatakan tidak bisa dipakai, karena saat ini pengisian password awal harus dilakukan langsung oleh nasabah di bank secara langsung!! ok, dengan sangat terpaksa, saya pun segera menuju bank niaga untuk mendapatkan password baru dan user id. semua berjalan lancar. saya sudah memasukkan password pilihan saya dan mereka akan segera mengirim user id melalui imel.

beberapa saat yang lalu akhirnya saya menerima imel tersebut, dan yups akhirnya saya mempunyai user id dan password secara lengkap untuk bisa segera mengakses e-banking. tapi...
ternyata saya terlalu banyak berharap untuk bisa mendapatkan kelancaran akses tersebut. damn!!!

setelah memasukkan user id dan password, muncul pemberitahuan bahwa user id/password yang saya masukkan salah. saya coba3 kali lagi, sambil berpikir dalam hati, 'keknya bakal diblokir nih'. dan benarlah apa yang saya kuatirkan, user id saya diblokir. dang!!!

saya pun mencoba menghubungi 14041 untuk menanyakan itu. telefon pertama gagal, tidak ada yang menerim telefon saya. dan masuklah saya ke blog ini untuk meluapkan kekesalan.

barusan saya kembali mencoba 14041, kali ini saya cukup beruntung karena ada yang menerima telefon saya. inti dari percakapan di telefon -- plus waktu menunggu -- yang menghabiskan pulsa hp saya selama 8 menit itu adalah mereka akan kembali mengaktifkan akses e-banking saya. dan baru 1 jam lagi saya bisa mengaksesnya. kalau pun ternyata setelah itu user id dan password saya masih dinyatakan salah, besok saya harus kembali lagi ke bank niaga tempat saya membuka rekening untuk memastikan kebenaran dan kecocokan dua benda ajaib itu.

semoga satu jam lagi saya sudah bisa mengakses e-banking niaga dan tidak lagi menemui masalah2 gak penting.

dan jadilah saya meracau tidak jelas seperti ini. padahal ini sangat berbahaya. saat kita punya keinginan besar untuk menulis di blog, apalagi di jam2 rawan curhat seperti sekarang ini, tanpa didukung oleh fokus yang jelas tentang tulisan yang ingin dituangkan, maka besar kecendurangannya kita akan terperosok ke lembah nista percurhatan. dan itu sangat tidak baik bagi saya. atau tepatnya, paling saya hindari :D

agak takjub juga saya ketika membaca sebuah berita di milis tentang rencana memasukkan sebuah pasal dalam uu lalu lintas dan angkutan jalan yang akan mengharuskan pengendara sepeda untuk memiliki SIM. komentar pertama yang terlintas dalam otak saya hanyalah: whatthefuck??!!! (pardon my french, please)

tadinya saya sempat berpikir, mungkin yang diharuskan memiliki SIM adalah pengendara becak, kendaraan umum tidak bermotor yang notabene sudah dilarang beredar di jalan2 besar. tapi setelah membaca kutipan berikut ini, saya jadi ragu (meskipun tetap berharap semoga saya hanya salah menginterpretasikan kalimat itu):

"Aturan baru berlalu lintas sedang digodok Komisi V (Bidang Perhubungan) DPR. Salah satunya aturan kepemilikan surat izin mengemudi (SIM) bagi pengguna sepeda, kusir delman, dan pengayuh becak. Jika semua fraksi partai politik setuju, aturan itu akan diberlakukan secara nasional. "Saat ini dalam tahap mencari masukan dari berbagai pihak," ujar anggota Komisi V Abdullah Azwar Anas kemarin (10/2)...

Selama ini UU Nomor 14 Tahun 1992 tentang Lalu Lintas dan Angkutan Jalan belum mengatur pengguna sepeda dan becak secara spesifik. "Naskah revisinya dari pemerintah. As a person who lives and works mostly in front of a computer, I must say that half of my life-supporting files are stored in my laptop. My important documents, pictures, movies, music and everything are kept there. I can’t imagine having my laptop crashed before I make a backup of all my files.

Yes, having all the files in my laptop backed up is the most important thing for me. I couldn’t afford losing them all just because of my carelessness. That’s why I manage to do continuous data protection on weekly basis. And to make it more secure, I also have remote file access and remote storage access for my backup files. By doing so, I hope I won’t face any difficulty when something happens with my laptop or with the files itself.

It doesn't have to be big and fancy, but it must be comfortable and providing good ambiance for a relaxing time. Further, considering I'd like to invite friends and relatives to spend the nights in my place, I think I also need to furnish my house with convertible furniture.

My wonderful time in Portugal

I had memorable holidays in Portugal last year. Though I didn’t visit too many tourist attractions due to time constraint, I was enjoying my stay in Lisbon and I could see how Portugal has diverse culture and beautiful scenery, as represented in Lisbon.

saya jadi berpikir ulang dan mulai ragu untuk menerima pekerjaan itu, mengingat sudah lama sekali saya tidak menjadi interpreter. untungnya saya sempat ngobrol dengan seorang teman yang kebetulan memberikan cerita dan contoh kasus sangat tepat untuk memunculkan kembali PD yang memudar itu. saya pun membalas imel untuk menyanggupi pekerjaan tersebut. saya juga menyatakan siap diuji dan siap menerima pembatalan apabila dianggap tidak mampu.

dua postingan saya sebelum ini memang hanya berisi iklan. yup, saya kembali mengumpulkan receh lewat dunia maya. untuk ukuran saya yang baru coba2 mencari pendapatan lewat dunia itu mungkin lebih pas kalau disebut pemulung maya, karena yang bisa saya kumpulkan saat ini baru seperak dua perak. itupun belum benar2 bisa dirasakan fisik uangnya secara nyata.

baru tanggal 10 besok saya bisa membuktikan. pada tanggal itu, pembayaran pertama saya akan ditransfer ke rekening paypal yang saya daftarkan. untuk edisi perdana ini saya tidak menggunakan rekening paypal pribadi saya karena belum diverifikasi oleh paypal. kali ini saya coba menggunakan jasa pihak ketiga, yaitu onespay, untuk mencairkan recehan yang saya dapat. itupun sifatnya masih gambling bagi saya, meskipun banyak yang merekomendasikan kualitas layanan onespay.

moga2 semua berjalan lancar, karena kalau ditotal2 tagihan saya yang akan cair berturut2 tanggal 10, 11, dan 12 ini total berjumlah 21 usd. tidak terlalu besar, tapi semoga bisa menjadi awal yang baik :)

saya mulai termotivasi untuk menjadi pemulung maya setelah membaca sebuah blog, dimana si empunya sudah pengalaman mendapat penghasilan yang lumayan dengan menulis review2 iklan di blognya. sekarang bayangkan saja, kalau dia punya 10 blog dan setiap harinya setiap blog mendapat pekerjaan menulis iklan/review senilai 7,5-10 usd, berarti dalam sehari dia bisa mendapat 75-100 usd. bayangkan berapa yang didapat dalam 10 hari? atau bahkan dalam sebulan? wow.

dan pekerjaan itu termasuk mudah dikerjakan, maksimal hanya membutuhkan waktu 30 menit. hmmm, kerja 1/2 jam sudah bisa mengantongi 5-10 usd. coba bandingkan dengan menerjemahkan film berdurasi 1/2 jam dengan pendapatan juga antara 5-10 usd. padahal untuk menerjemahkan film berdurasi 1/2 jam saja saya perlu waktu lebih dari 2 jam.

haha. sepertinya saya mulai bermimpi. tapi, bukankah segala sesuatu yang baik dan besar kadang berawal dari sebuah impian? ;D

keramahan yang berlebih

satu hal yang cukup mengganggu saat kita masuk ke sebuah pertokoan adalah keramahan yang berlebihan. "silakan, ada yang bisa dibantu?" atau "mau cari apa?" adalah dua contoh sapaan standar tak perlu yang sering kita dengar.

kalau boleh kurang ajar, mungkin saya akan menyaut "mbak mau bantu saya? gimana kalo mbak tutup mulut dan menyingkir dari penglihatan saya, itu pasti sangat membantu" atau "yang pasti bukan mencari mbak!". untung saya masih cukup sopan, sehingga yang terlontar dari mulut saya hanyalah, "makasih mbak, mau liat2 aja".

serba salah memang jadi penjaga toko. terlalu ramah diprotes, terlalu jutek apalagi. buat saya, kedua hal itu sangat mengganggu. kalau boleh usul, mereka seharusnya berprinsip "i'm nonexistent until i'm needed".

sedikit sadis memang, tapi sepertinya lebih baik begitu. mereka cukup berdiri di tempat2 yang strategis, tutup mulut dengan setelan tersenyum, dan hanya menyapa kalau si pengunjung bertanya kepadanya. gak perlulah mereka mengajukan pertanyaan basa-basi yang mengganggu itu dan kemudian mengikuti si pengunjung. kayak gak ada kerjaan lain aja.

salah satu contoh toko yang penjaganya berlebihan adalah ace hardware yang baru dibuka di bilangan permata hijau. untuk ukuran toko yang tak seberapa besar, ace sepertinya mempekerjakan seribu penjaga toko yang tersebar berdiri dimana2 dan rajin memberikan sapaan2 gak penting.

dibalik keramahan yang berlebihan itu, ternyata masih ada juga penjaganya yang tidak bisa memberi jawaban cerdas ketika kita mengomentari wc-nya yang baunya amit2. "mungkin itu obat pembersihnya yang gak bagus, jadi baunya gak enak".

sampai di situ jawaban dia masih bagus. dan seharusnya cukup berhenti di situ dan, meskipun dengan tetap tersenyum dan berusaha terlihat ramah, jangan dilanjutkan lagi dengan, "yaah, maklum deh mbak, namanya juga tempat umum. jadi wajar aja kalau suka bau begitu. terima aja apa adanya."

ealah mbak, mbak, situ sih maennya cuma ke terminal bus yang wc umumnya emang bau terus, jadi emang udah biasa.

refleksi 2007 untuk 2008

sebuah entry yang cukup basi. bagaimana tidak, refleksi2 akhir tahun seperti ini biasanya ditulis di hari2 akhir menjelang pergantian tahun, bukan 4 hari setelah tahun berganti.

mau bagaimana lagi, seperti sudah diduga, koneksi internet saya terputus 15 menit menjelang detik2 kedatangan tahun 2008 karena saya lalai membayar kewajiban saya (lalai atau emang lagi gak punya duit?). dan baru hari ini saya bisa kembali mengakses dunia maya secara leluasa di komputer.

bagaimana dengan refleksinya? tahun 2007 menjadi salah satu tonggak sejarah terpenting dalam hidup saya, karena setelah bekerja dalam situasi 'hidup segan, mati tak mau' selama 7 tahun, akhirnya saya memutuskan untuk melepaskan diri dari pekerjaan itu.

2007 juga penting karena di kuartal akhir tahun tersebut saya mulai bisa 'merasakan' dan 'melihat' yang mana sebetulnya teman2 saya yang sesungguhnya.

tidak kalah penting, di akhir 2007 saya memutuskan untuk mencoba berani hidup sendiri. dalam artian, saya mulai berusaha memberanikan diri untuk tinggal sendiri secara terpisah dari keluarga (meskipun masih di satu halaman). saya berusaha menghilangkan sifat penakut atas bayangan2 menyeramkan yang sering mengganggu pikiran. cukup melelahkan memang, tapi saya harus berusaha.

semoga tahun 2008 ini juga menjadi tonggak sejarah terpenting yang baik bagi saya dan kehidupan.

beberapa waktu yang lalu saya kembali menghadiri upacara pernikahan adat jawa. terakhir saya datang ke acara seperti itu di bulan januari lalu. luar biasa. ternyata tahun 2007 ini dibuka dan ditutup dengan menghadiri upacara nikahan jawa. (<== contoh kalimat/komentar gak penting)

saat menyaksikan acara tersebut beberapa hari yang lalu, pikiran yang sama di januari lalu muncul kembali. mungkin saya benar2 sudah tidak percaya dengan simbol2 gak penting itu. mungkin juga simbol2 itu memang gak penting dan tidak seharusnya saya bahas lagi. nah, bingung kan.

sebetulnya sudah sejak lama seorang teman menyarankan saya untuk membaca buku karya george orwell yang berjudul 1984, tapi entah kenapa saya tak pernah tertarik membacanya. setiap ke toko buku dan melihat buku itu, saya sempat berhenti sebentar, berpikir untuk membelinya, kemudian mengembalikan buku itu ke raknya. selalu begitu.

reaksi yang berbeda ketika saya disarankan membaca karya orwell lainnya yang berjudul animal farm. pertama kali saya melihat buku itu di rak sebuah toko buku, saya langsung membelinya. belakangan saya pun berusaha memiliki dan menonton versi filmnya. dan akhirnya saya bisa memiliki dvd-nya, hasil pemberian seorang teman lama di inggris.

kembali ke 1984, meski tidak tertarik membeli bukunya, akhirnya saya memutuskan untuk memiliki dvd-nya. dan baru siang ini saya sempat menontonnya. dan saya tidak mengerti isi filmnya. waduh, kalau filmnya saja susah dicerna apalagi bukunya?!

kenapa filmnya tidak bisa dimengerti? mungkin karena terlalu politis buat saya. mungkin juga karena terlalu banyak pemaknaan secara simbolis. atau mungkin, sepertinya ini yang paling tepat, karena emang aja otak saya terlalu pas2an untuk bisa mencerna isi film itu.

saya pun memutuskan untuk googling. saya tidak terlalu ingin memahami secara detail, bukan karena tidak mau tahu, tapi karena terlalu malas untuk berlama2 membacanya. jadi intinya film itu bercerita tentang sebuah pemerintahan yang bersifat totalitarian opresif, dimana semua kehidupan dan pergerakannya dipantau, dalam arti benar2 dipantau melalui video, oleh "big brother". untuk informasi lebih detailnya, silakan googling sendiri.

btw, seorang teman dulu pernah mengatakan bahwa pemerintahan indonesia di era orde baru pernah dikenal secara luas dengan istilah "pemerintah 1984".

sinterklas atau santa klaus?

dulu saya sempat mengira sinterklas sama dengan santa klaus. baru 2 tahun belakangan ini saya tahu bahwa ternyata mereka berbeda, meskipun punya tampilan yang sama.

berhubung yang mengatakan mereka berbeda adalah orang2 di utara sana, di kampung asalnya santa klaus, ya saya pun percaya. konon, santa klaus adalah bapak natal yang tinggal di lapland, desa kecil yang terletak jauh di utara sana. santa klaus dibantu oleh para elf (kalau tidak salah itu namanya, saya lupa) dengan seragam hijaunya. santa klaus mengendarai kereta yang ditarik oleh rusa2 besar.

sedangkan sinterklas lebih dikenal di daratan eropa, tepatnya di negeri belanda (alakh, istilah orang jaman dulu banget!). sinterklas dibantu oleh piet hitam, ajudan2nya yang berkulit hitam dan ditakuti anak2 kecil karena konon kabarnya suka mengurung anak2 nakal di dalam karung. kalau gak salah sih sinterklas tidak mengendarai rusa.

terus terang saya tidak yakin apa memang mereka benar berbeda. tapi paling tidak itulah yang dipercayai orang2 di utara sana. mungkin ini hanya masalah perbedaan versi kepercayaan pada karakter bapak natal.

sebetulnya agak menyesal juga dulu sempat meninggalkan rumah lama itu. emang sih, gak ada gunanya juga menyesali yang sudah2. tapi kalau boleh berandai2 nih, seandainya rumah itu gak digembok, pasti cukup banyak yang lalu lalang di situ. dan kemungkinan pagerank dan alexa rumah itu bakal lumayan.

terus terang saya gak tau persis sih apa maksudnya pagerank dan alexa. biarpun saya sudah coba buka2 wikipedia tentang 2 hal itu, saya tetap tidak ngerti. sepertinya sih itu gak jauh2 dari penilaian tingkat keramaian dan lalu lalang di sebuah situs. dua hal yang sepertinya sangat penting bagi yang tertarik mencari uang lewat situs atau blognya.

nah, lagi2, seandainya rumah itu tidak ditutup, pasti pagerank-nya termasuk lumayan, minimal 3 sih ada lah. tapi, lagi2, sudahlah, gak ada gunanya juga menyesali yang sudah2.

mari berbahasa inggris (yang baik dan benar)

semakin banyaknya orang yang mencampur pemakaian bahasa inggris dalam percakapan berbahasa indonesia kadang membuat saya minder, meski kadang juga bangga. bagaimana tidak, bukankah itu berarti semakin banyak orang indonesia yang bisa (maaf saya tidak menggunakan kata pandai) berbahasa inggris.

lalu apa yang membuat minder? yaitu ketika orang yang terdengar fasih berbahasa inggris, tiba2 mengucapkan sesuatu yang rasa2nya, seingat saya saat belajar bahasa inggris tingkat dasar dulu, mestinya tidak begitu. membuat saya berpikir bahwa mungkin saya yang salah, mengingat saya tidak terbiasa berucap bahasa inggris dalam percakapan sehari2.

sebagai contoh, saat menonton sebuah tayangan tv (acara gosipkah?), seorang perempuan membeberkan masalah hak asuh anaknya dalam bahasa indonesia yang sesekali diselingi kata-kata inggris. tidak masalah sebetulnya, sampai kemudian si perempuan berkata,"sebagai wanita tentu saya ingin bisa take care him." uhmmm, bukankah seharusnya "take care OF him?"

contoh lain, masih di tv, adalah ketika seorang reporter acara hiburan mewawancarai, kalau tidak salah, seorang DJ atau manajer sebuah klub di luar negeri. aksen dan pengucapan bahasa inggris si reporter bisa dibilang lumayanlah, sampai dia bertanya,"when is this club have been exist?" kalimat itu sempat membuat saya ragu, dia yang ngaco atau saya yang kurang menguasai tatabahasa bahasa inggris?

kesalahan2 seperti itu (kalau memang bener itu salah) ternyata tidak hanya terjadi secara lisan. beberapa hari yang lalu saya membaca sebuah selebaran tentang acara yang diselenggarakan sebuah sma swasta khusus laki2 di daerah brawijaya. di sana tertulis: "sma pangudi luhur present...." sempat saya baca beberapa kali kalimat itu untuk mencari kata "and" agar bisa membenarkan penggunaan kata "present" tanpa diikuti huruf "s" setelah "t".

contoh terbaru adalah pagi ini saat saya membuka koran pagi. di salah satu halamannya, terdapat sebuah iklan hotel Ritz Carlton sebesar 1/2 halaman koran, lengkap dengan tampilan gambar ruangan mewah dan keterangannya. tapi ada sebuah kalimat singkat dalam gambar itu yang mengundang pertanyaan: "Pacific Place Ballroom, capacity 10.000 person."

manakah yang benar, person atau persons? atau mungkin memang saya yang salah, mohon maaf dan tolong dikoreksi kalau begitu.

sebetulnya saya tidak sedang mencari2 kesalahan atau pembenaran. silakan saja kalau orang mau mencampur2 penggunaan 2 bahasa dalam percakapannya. yang terpenting, gunakanlah bahasa dan tatabahasanya secara baik dan benar, baik untuk bahasa indonesia maupun inggris. paling tidak biar gak malu2inlah.

tapi biasanya akan ada yang berkelit: "kalau takut malu, kapan bisanya? kan itung2 sekalian belajar." nah kalau ini lain urusan. mbok ya kalau mau belajar jangan setengah2. sekalian gunakan kalimat lengkap dalam bahasa inggris. lah wong masih belajar aja kok berani2an mencampur2 bahasa. (mending juga nyampur minuman!)

buka rumah

sudah hampir setahun rumah lama itu digembok rapat. mungkin sekarang sudah saatnya dibuka kembali. yaaah, yang sudah2 anggap saja pengalaman buruk, semoga tidak terulang kembali.

begitulah, sesorean tadi saya sibuk berbenah. seperti halnya rumah yang sudah lama tak ditempati, tentu banyak debu dan kotoran yang harus dibersihkan dan dibuang. bahkan kalau perlu melakukan sejumlah perombakan untuk mempercantik rumah tua yang terlihat sangat suram dan muram.

dan itulah yang saya lakukan. membuang sampah2 kotor, menyimpan dan membersihkan masih bagus, termasuk juga merenovasi rumah itu dengan warna yang lebih cerah dan penuh harapan (alakh!). semoga rumah itu bisa kembali ramai tapi tidak kotor :)

Let me tell you why I love big cities like London and Berlin. I went to London several times for different reasons. But every time I went there, I felt the same enchantment. My favourite spots in London are Leicester Square, Covent Garden, Camden, and of course Piccadilly Circus as one of its central landmark.

Another interesting attraction in London is its assorted theatre performances, like Phantom of the Opera, We Will Rock You, and Stomp. All those made me stay, at least, 1 night every time I went to London. It’s easy to find hotels in London with various price range, which can be compared and booked in London Hotels.

As for Berlin, although I went there only once, it has left remarkable memory of the city. One of historical attractions there is Checkpoint Charlie, the former border crossing point between East and West. Berlin Wall is also another historical site to be seen. And it is very amazing to see the Berliner Dom (Church of the Kaisers), either from outside or inside the building. For the most popular attraction in Berlin, Potsdamer Platz is the place. And to spend the nights in Berlin, we can also book and compare the hotel price in Berlin Hotels.

My next destinations are these romantic and sexy cities, i.e. Paris and Barcelona. Eiffel Tower is, of course, one of the main attractions I want to see in Paris, as well as the Champs-Elysees, the Louvre and Notre Dame Cathedral. As for Barcelona, I really want to go and see Sagrada Familia Church that is claimed as the symbol of Barcelona. I’d also like to walk along Las Ramblas, one of Europe’s most famous streets, and see Barri Gotic, known as the most excellent Gothic areas in Europe.

To make my plan work well in visiting Paris and Barcelona, of course I have to start searching for the accommodations. And again, I can find hotels and make price comparison in Paris Hotels and Barcelona Hotels. I really hope I can bring my plan into realisation soon.

cukup menarik

saya sedang semangat untuk kembali aktif ngeblog. seperti yang saya bilang kemarin, saya sedang 'ngetes' seberapa besar tingkat kemungkinan mencari uang sambil ngeblog.

semangat dan keingintahuan saya semakin bertambah, ketika malam ini saya membuka account saya di blogsvertise, dan mendapatkan info bahwa tulisan iklan saya tentang asuransi sudah disetujui, dan saya tinggal menunggu transfer pembayaran sebesar 5 usd untuk itu.

terus terang saya masih agak meragukan kebenarannya, sampai uang itu benar2 ditransfer ke rekening paypal saya 30 hari setelah tulisan saya disetujui. berarti masih sebulan lagi.

masalah berikutnya adalah, kalaupun uang itu benar ditransfer ke rekening paypal, bagaimana saya bisa mencairkannya? karena hingga saat ini, setahu saya, rekening paypal indonesia hanya bisa mencairkan uang lewat kartu kredit. lah, saya kan gak punya kartu kredit, otomatis rekening paypal saya belum pernah diverifikasi sejak saya membuatnya dulu.

biarlah, saya mau cari2 info dulu tentang paypal indonesia. btw, barusan nemu situs paypalindonesia.

saya juga mau mengerjakan tugas baru saya yang bernilai 8 usd. semoga disetujui. dan yang terpenting, semoga bukan tipuan. kalaupun iya, yaaah anggep aja apes.

pertama, saya punya berita baik. ternyata saya tidak sedang berhalusinasi ketika melihat dan mendengar komentar sang diva tentang rumah kaca. tadi saya sempat iseng googling mengetikkan nama sang diva dan rumah kaca. lalu muncullah beberapa halaman, satu di antaranya adalah sebuah halaman multiply yang memuat cerita yang sama. berarti saya tidak salah nangkep.

kedua, saya punya berita kurang mengenakkan. belakangan ini saya sedang bereksperimen dengan blog saya, sekedar memastikan dan membuktikan apa benar blog bisa menghasilkan uang lewat iklan.

It’s expensive to be health. Most people would realise it when the sickness makes them stay in a hospital or require a surgery. Even the rich could be surprised when they receive the bills after such treatment. Those who are covered by health insurance would feel much better on financial aspect. They’ve made good decision to purchase and save money on insurance.

It is indeed quite overwhelming when the first time we try to choose which insurance policy to purchase. We want our health to be fully covered by insurance. Also, we want our loved ones to be covered. In addition, we’d also like to see our family to have a good financial future even after our death. That’s why, I think it’s good to consider taking family insurance to cover the health of ours and our loved ones.

Recently, I heard that there’s a new insurance programme namely cash back insurance. By having that, we actually receive all the money we paid when our policy expires. Isn’t that interesting?

krisdayanti dan rumah kaca

sungguh tak disangka, seorang diva negeri ini bisa memberikan komentar sangat naif tentang efek rumah kaca dan pemanasan global.

siang tadi kebetulan ada sebuah tayangan acara di tv (saya gak ngeh acara apa, karena biasanya tv lebih sering saya fungsikan sebagai backsound) yang menampilkan komentar sejumlah pesohor dalam negeri tentang kondisi lingkungan hidup dan pemanasan global. beberapa pesohor memberikan pendapatnya yang sederhana namun cukup mengena tentang masalah yang sedang ramai dibicarakan saat ini.

ada yang menyarankan agar kita membatasi penggunaan listrik, jangan pakai AC 24 jam, matikan air saat sedang keramas, dan hal-hal sederhana lainnya. sederhana tapi cukup cerdas, alias nyambung.

lalu muncullah pendapat diva satu itu yang sempat membuat saya terbelalak dan berpikir, 'seriuskah dia dengan ucapannya?'

"... saya sebetulnya sempat tertarik untuk punya green house, rumah kaca. tapi setelah tahu bahwa ternyata rumah kaca itu termasuk salah satu penyebab global warming, jadi saya batalkan keinginan saya itu."

begitu kira2 ucapannya. terus terang saya tidak ingat persis kata per kata. tapi intinya ya itu tadi. saya sempat tidak percaya mendengar kalimat itu, sampai kemudian saya hanya bisa tertawa menanggapinya.

komentar si diva membuat saya teringat pada omongan guru agama di SMA saya belasan tahun yang lalu. waktu itu, entah bagaimana awalnya, si guru tiba2 bicara tentang efek rumah kaca. "... itulah yang dimaksud dengan efek rumah kaca. karena sekarang banyak sekali dibangun gedung2 bertingkat dengan banyak kaca yang memantulkan panas. itu menyebabkan suhu semakin panas..."

saat itu memang efek rumah kaca belum menjadi topik yang hangat dibicarakan dimana2, apalagi perubahan iklim, yang masih terdengar bagaikan sebuah mitos. omongan pak guru itu sempat membuat saya ragu. apa iya begitu, karena setahu saya bukan itu yang dimaksud dengan efek rumah kaca.

setahu saya, kalau tidak salah, yang dimaksud dengan efek rumah kaca adalah efek penangkapan panas seperti yang terjadi di rumah kaca, tempat berkebun yang lazim ditemukan di daerah2 beriklim dingin. rumah kaca menyerap panas matahari ke dalam rumah dan tak bisa dipantulkan ke luar. panas tersebut digunakan untuk mempertahankan suhu hangat/panas di dalam rumah agar tanaman dapat tumbuh.

efek seperti itulah yang juga dialami oleh bumi dengan selubung atmosfirnya. dengan proses alamiah, panas dari luar terserap menembus atmosfir untuk menjaga kelangsungan hidup makhluk di bumi. secara alamiah keseimbangan antara panas yang masuk dan dipantulkan kembali dapat terjaga. namun, dengan berbagai produk dan perilaku manusia yang menghasilkan polusi dan gas, proses pemantulan kembali panas ke luar lapisan atmosfir mengalami gangguan. dan itu menyebabkan panas yang berlebih di muka bumi.

kira2 begitulah pengetahuan awam saya tentang efek rumah kaca. kalau ada yang salah, ya tolong diperbaiki. tapi saya yakin kesalahannya tidak separah komentar sang diva. (tapi saya masih berharap semoga tadi saya hanya salah menangkap maksud omongan si KD)

i've known blogging for quite a long time. uhm well, not that long actually. but at least i had my first blog in the beginning of 2002. during that time, not too many people knew what blog was. but i'm glad that many are familiar with it nowadays. i'd love to keep my old blog active, but somehow it's not easy to handle some offensive remarks provided by some irresponsible readers.

anyways, i just realise that it's been 5 years and i've done nothing to my blog but writing some entries from day to day and changing its look every now and then. and as blogging becomes so hyped these last few years, we can even earn money from that. how good does it sound?

i've heard about earning money from blogging for quite some time, but i never really paid attention to it. now, somehow, it really attracts me to give it a shot after i did some blogwalking and find something interesting called blogsvertise.

it's interesting, because unlike other programmes that offer monetising your blog or site, blogsvertise is focused spesifically for blog writers. And another thing that makes me a bit more curious is that it mentions that it will give task to the registered bloggers to write something, anything, that should mention some products which links should be included in the writing. it does make me curious.

so here i am, still awake while the sun is ready to welcome a brand new day. i just need to finish the registration process, write some bit on this interesting advertising through blog namely blogsvertise, go to sleep and wait another day to see whether or not my application would be approved. just wait and see.
